As I said before, I would like to write about how I became Porno Graffitti's fan. I think today's blog is pretty long.
Porno Graffitti was the one of first Japanese artists I learned when I came back to Japan from Canada. I was in grade 5, elementary school. At that time, I was not interested in them (or other music), so I did not listen to their songs at all.
After entering junior high school, I had a tough time. To tell the truth, I hated going to school because I had harassment from club members I used to belong (E.S.S), just because I couldn't do well at school. Since I like comics, I was teased that I am an "Otaku" from that group. They always said things whatever I do. I do not want to write other things they did to me. Of course, I quited E.S.S even though I belonged less than a year. I still like comics, but I become sensitive whenever I hear the word "Otaku".
From this harassment, I became misanthropy and devious. School was a nightmare for me.
Though I tried to make new friends, from my devious personality, relations broke up easily. I still did not have confidence that I can have my own ways and opinions, to stand up by myself and have fun at school like the other classmates.
That was when I met Porno Graffitti again.
They have changed since I have last saw them. They were having an interview on a music program. There was an documentary video which showed Porno Graffitti's history. Before their major debut in Tokyo, they have tough times doing street lives at Osaka. But they never gave up and after 2 years of difficulty, Porno Graffitti has debuted in September 8th,1999. In the interview, Akihito, the vocalist (picture: left) said, " It was tough, and we didn't know where the dark tunnel ends, but we didn't think it was bad. We always thought positively. You can get out of the tunnel by enduring and strive for the things you want to accomplish". Also, for the question "What would you like to do in the future?", they answered that they would like to give many messages by making songs and do many live performances for many people. After their interview, they sang their latest song. My eyes were full with tears. I have never heard such a beautiful song than that. From this program, I realized that "I'm not the only one who is struggling, if you do your best, something wonderful comes back to you."
From that day, I became their fan. I have also changed. I regained my confidence that I can be my self, started to think things positively and do things that I want to do with all my might.
It is not too much to say that Porno Graffitti is my savior and hope. If it weren't for them, I would still be struggling by my self and not happy or cheerful with many friends like now. I feel thankful and I am very lucky to encounter with such an artist like them. I am confident to say that I will be their fan forever.
